Called Pasco Auto Wrecking, looks like they've got a 1998 AW4 out of a rolled cherokee. 96k Miles - has torque convertor, cable, plugs, flex plate, dip stick and tube, & TCM.
Say they'll sell it all to me for $525 minus a $100 dollar core charge for my 32 RH. Price seems a bit high based on what White trash has been saying - but I'm unsure of what kind of overhead an auto wrecking business has to work with.
Whatcha think?

Who did you talk to out there? Talk to Jobin (John) or Craig out there, mention you're a Putter and you might get a better deal. Or ask Jose to ask, I think he has some dirt on them or something.
Okay, we're a little crazy to have a Duramax for a daily driver. But if we go off our meds, we might wind up in a Prius.

Private party would be less, but then you don't have anyone to yell at if it doesn't work.
Did you tell John that you were with the club?
Didn't get a name, or tell them I'm a member. Should have thought of that. When I head out there I'll mention that and see if I can get a better deal. I need to learn the PP secret handshake.
Hows the yelling at people thing work? I figured that with a salvage yard I was basically out of luck if it doesn't work. Should I be asking about a guarantee or is it less formal than that?

So do I just need to mention Jose's name, or does he have some automotive underworld callsign?

Call back and talk to Craig or John. Is it out of the rig? I'm going out there in a bit. I'll see what the deal is, but that ain't bad on the price.

I'll call back and see what they'll do for me. And that'd be great if you could look at it. Sounds like everything big (trans, flexplate, TC ect) is out of the rig except for some wiring.

Oh, don't mention Jose's name, I'm not sure they really like him.
But, really, Craig did well by my brother on an AX15 recently. And what the others said, if that is $425 after you bring them the core... sounds good to me.

Well, sounds good to me then. I called back and talked to John - but he wasn't sure about pricing and they couldn't figure out who I talked to as no quote was written down. As long as it's in that ballpark I suppose it's good enough for me.
Dave - I mentioned you might be dropping by, and it sounds like everything is easy to look at if you don't mind.
Thanks a bunch guys - a person doesn't usually get so much help so quickly most places.

Well that certainly ranks high on the cool factor! Can you bypass it and let the slush box do its job?

Did some quick reading on this when I was trying to figure out what year to get. Since I'm going with a 98 trans, it will talk to my computer and shift normally - and the aftermarket shifter can force it despite the computer. Think both should work at the same time.
Was hoping to avoid needing one, but Craig says the trans likes to shift up even if the stock lever is in 1st. So it looks like I'll have two sticks to play with and in conjunction with the second PP sticker I picked up at the meeting should be getting at least 5 more miles per gallon.
