Product review: Mother's headlight restorer.

Do they really work? I had to find out....

The headlight covers on the wife's ride had became very cloudy and yellow. It is a 2005 model and 7 years has taken its toll on the plastic. I have been seeing all these adds on TV about many products and miracle fixes.

I chose the Mother's Headlight Restorer Kit because it came with a Powerball attachment for my drill, a buffing cloth, some "extreme damage" pad thingys (I did not use these), along with the solution.

By golly it worked. For how long? Who knows. I give it a 9 out of 10. The headlight covers are not 100% perfect, but the difference is pretty amazing.

The instructions say it can be used on convertible top plastic windows. We will see how it does on my scratched soft uppers when they come out of storage.

The way we do it at work is with 600 and 1000 grit sand paper and water. First sand with 600 wet then 1000 wet then buff it. But everyone has detail buffers and solution sitting around. Looks good Dave.

Did the kit come with a sealer? I watched a demo recently at an RV show...different product, but they recommended putting a sealer on the finished product.

No sealer unless it's already in the solution provided. They had about 10 different choices. I got tired of scratching my head staring at them all, and grabbed the Mother's.

It would be nice if they put a sealer on with UV protectant. In my experience, most of these headlight assemblies have some kind of clear coat on them that must have UV block. Buffing usually removes this coat, and then your lights tend to yellow quicker than they did when they were new.
