School me on High Pinion Dana 30

My rear axle is almost ready to pick up. I need to get on the ball and order parts for my front axle so I can install the rear. (gears, master overhaul kit).
A co-worker picked up a HP Dana 30 for his son's YJ. But, after looking at all the coil and control arm brackets that would need to be cut off and then modified to fit a leaf sprung Jeep, he said forget it. So.......... He gave it to me!
My question is: Does a LP30 and a HP30 have the same ring and pinion sets? I heard there may be a difference since the pinion is on the upper side of the axle. I have been seeing terms like "reverse gear sets" and "crush sleeve/no crush sleeve" on some of the online parts dealers. But other sites do not depict any difference.
It is confusing for the already confused. Any input would be helpful.
It will be nice to have this front axle to play with, and still have a Jeep to drive until everything is ready to swap in all at once.
