School me on High Pinion Dana 30

My rear axle is almost ready to pick up. I need to get on the ball and order parts for my front axle so I can install the rear. (gears, master overhaul kit).
A co-worker picked up a HP Dana 30 for his son's YJ. But, after looking at all the coil and control arm brackets that would need to be cut off and then modified to fit a leaf sprung Jeep, he said forget it. So.......... He gave it to me!

My question is: Does a LP30 and a HP30 have the same ring and pinion sets? I heard there may be a difference since the pinion is on the upper side of the axle. I have been seeing terms like "reverse gear sets" and "crush sleeve/no crush sleeve" on some of the online parts dealers. But other sites do not depict any difference. :?: It is confusing for the already confused. Any input would be helpful.

It will be nice to have this front axle to play with, and still have a Jeep to drive until everything is ready to swap in all at once. 8)

Sweet! 8-) (I'll leave the advice to the more knowledgeable than me.)

High pinion takes different gears. The gear cut is "reversed" of that on a low pinion. It makes the front run forward on the drive side of the gears rather than on the coast side like they do in a front end application.

Bring the ferd by today and I'll weld the door up for ya and explain what you need to know.

Have to pick it up, go through it, and see if it will work. Might need some parts out of my stock one. Not sure yet.

When I get both axles in, both the LP d30 and the ole Turdy-5 will be up for grabs. Low miles, 3.73 gears.

The carrier is the same, your brakes and your axle shafts will swap over along with driveshaft to HP D30. As
Trash said gears are reverse rotation which is actually stronger.
