I am trying to start upgrading my 2010 Wrangler Rubicon. I have had my eye on this bumper,
http://www.performanceoffroadcenter.com/oscommerce/images/jk-19531.bmp (sorry, could only find this pic of it). It has a winch mount area as well as D-ring mounts. It does not come with the seen skid plate. I was wondering if this is a good starter bumper. It is a Body Armor BA-JK-19531. If anyone knows of a better bumper in the $400 range, please let me know.

Here is a link to the best looking JK bumper I've seen to date.

As far as the one you are looking at... what is it constructed of? You don't want a lot of weight, but you are going to want strength up front.

To be honest, I have neither the knowledge, skills, nor tools to make my own bumper.

Anyway the stats are as follows: it is constructed of 316 steel and weighs 65 lbs. Are these decent?

Getting into the type of steel is getting above my paygrade, but there are others here who can post up. The weight doesn't sound bad to me; I was more curious about the thickness of the steel.

Well 316 is a grade of stainless steel. I assume that is what the manufacturer is referencing.

Time to stop assuming...

Manufactured from 3/16" steel plate, sculpted to enhance the styling of the JK platform, compact design does not over power the front of the Jeep. Integrated winch plate with fairlead mounts, integrated shackle mounts for recovery points and grill guard.

Oh in that case

, I think I can support a front bumper made of 3/16" steel. 1/4" would be overkill and bring too much weight to the party.
