clutch

Postby Dale » Sun Jan 02, 2011 6:59 pm

My dad and I went out to juniper to do a little hiking around and wheeling and my jeep made a sound of something letting go and my clutch went out. I was traveling down a steep hill when it happened and once stopped had a hard time getting her to go into gear. With a little work I got it in and drove her all the way home with little trouble, when I got to pasco at the road 68 light I put it in gear and when I let out the clutch, nothing but a little smoke came out. and my dad towed me home.

It goes into the shop to get checked and fixed tommorrow. Any suggestions or words of wisdom would be appreciated. If the clutch did go any suggestions on what kind or brand to go with?

I've always had great luck with LuK clutches. Good solid factory replacement at a good price.

X2.

Which shop is it going to?
Okay, we're a little crazy to have a Duramax for a daily driver. But if we go off our meds, we might wind up in a Prius.

clutch

Postby Dale » Mon Jan 03, 2011 12:28 pm

I toke it to steves tire factory and was told that the luk clutch was 550.00 and a centerforce dual friction was 660.00 I asked about a replacement luk clutch kit and was told that the whole clutch needed to be replaced? WIth four hours to replace around a 1000.00$$ total ouch!! I looked up the price of these clutches a found them for much cheaper than this but was told that their are pieces outside of the clutch that need to be replaeced as well wich added another 190.00 onto the price of just the clutch itself. 100,000 miles on a stock clutch not bad though.

I had a clutch and pressure plate that was supposed to fit a Jeep I6. CopenhagenCowboy has it right now. I think he decided not to use it so you can have it if it will work for you.

One of the ones he has is for a 4.0 to an AX15 if that helps.

Not all 4.0 clutches are the same.

Coming from my point of view. If you are paying to have it installed I would let them supply the parts. You won't have any kind of warranty if you bring in your own parts.
You can follow me.... but it's gonna hurt ;)

That's not even a funny price. Highwayfawkingrobbery at it's finest. That is an EASY rig to do a clutch in. Buy a clutch local or online, pick up a resurfaced flywheel from AAW and you can bring it over here in a week or so when I have room if no one else will step up and help ya out.

The FORD Steelership in Moab charged my $1000 to do a clutch in my FORD F350 and that did not include a resurface on the flywheel.

That's a dual mass painintheass clutch to do. The clutch kit was over half of that easily...

Are you sure. It's a 460 gas sucker. I paid about $400 for a throw-out bearing, clutch, presure plate, pilot bushing and tax. The rest was labor and more tax. Their shop rate was $99/hour.

clutch

Thanks for all the advice guys and willingness to help me out. Next time I will use some sense and post up before I take my rig in. It ended up being not as much as I said before but still spendy 800.00 They installed a dual friction centerforce and charged me four hours labor. Hopefully this will work and learned my lesson for next time. I was also in a bad way because this is my daily driver and need it back asap for work!! from what ive read though these are excellent clutches understand that it was overkill and not nessacary but hopefully will last a long time and not let me down.
