Another jeep project

Postby Lurch » Fri Apr 22, 2011 9:05 am

So I'm swapping the rear d35 out in my heep and going with a ford 8.8. I was told it would be in my best interest to do a SYE kit also. I know the previous owner had a rear u-joint problem even with the t-case drop. So my question is where is the best place to get one. Any brands to stay away from? I've found them as cheap as $169 on eBay for a complete kit but nervous about not being a quality parts.

I'd a thunk Advanced Adapters, but I see TJDave went with a PORC slip yoke eliminator. About a $190. That's $100 cheaper. Maybe Dave will post up.
Okay, we're a little crazy to have a Duramax for a daily driver. But if we go off our meds, we might wind up in a Prius.

Roman recommended the PORC. That's what I bought. That's what is in my Jeep now. That's what I have not had a chance to try out yet. :D

Scored a t-case with the SYE already done for $100 off of criagslist. Now I just need to find time to get it put in.

So it's been a busy weekend. Saturday I took the heep down to work and put it up on the rack. Swapped out the t-case, swapped in the 4.88 gears in the front. Changed the oil and trans fluid. Also fixed a couple little things.
Sunday I hauled the thing over to Jose's house and we worked on swapping out the d35 for a 8.8 rear. Had a couple of small setbacks but we got it done. Drove it around the block. Seems to run out pretty good other then the boggers are junk.
As soon as I got it home the top came off so we could take it out for a drive. Definatly need a new set of tires for the thing but it's nice to have it drivable.
Jose thanks again for your help!!
