By direction of the 60th Legislature (2008) (SHB 2472) the Department of Natural Resources (DNR) was mandated to establish a work group who would make recommendations to improve recreation on state trust lands, aquatic lands and other state-managed lands; examine relevant existing laws and rules and recommend policy changes and funding aternatives for consideration by the Legislature to ensure safe, sustainable, and enjoyable recreation access - in the long term.

Twenty-six recreation users and three Legislators made up the Sustainable Recreation Work Group (SRWG) that was appointed by then Commissioner Doug Sutherland; in the Fall of '08 DNR conducted nine public workshops and online survey. January '09 - the work group began holding discussion forums addressing key issues - either online or face-to-face meetings throughout the summer.

The time has come now to present the work groups alternatives/recommendations on key policy issues to the general public for their comments. A set of six (6) open house workshops have been scheduled - dates and locations follows: (Tentative meeting time 6:00 ......?)

September 29, Tuesday, City of Issaquah, 130 East Sunset Way, Issaquah, WA. 98027

September 30, Wednesday, Ellensburg College, 400 East University Way, Ellensburg, WA. 98926

October 1, Thursday, Deer Park Library, 208 Forest Street, Deer Park, WA (Spokane area) 99006

October 5, Monday, Pacific Cascade Region Office, 601 Bond Road, Castle Rock, WA. 98611

October 6, Tuesday, Port Angeles Library, 2210 S. Peabody Street, Port Angeles, WA 98362

October 7, Wednesday, Burlington Library, 820 E. Washington Ave., Burlington, WA 98233

If you have any questions regarding these workshops please feel free to contact me at any time; an agenda will be available as we near the first public workshop.
