Two Washington Plants Proposed for Endangered Species Act Protection

PORTLAND, Ore.— The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service today proposed Endangered Species Act protection for two plants, the Umtanum desert buckwheat and White Bluffs bladderpod, found only in Washington’s Hanford Reach National Monument. The agency also proposed designation of just over 3,200 acres in Benton and Franklin counties, Wash., as protected critical habitat for the two plants. The proposals are the result of an agreement between the Center and the Service to speed up protection decisions for 757 species around the country.

I wonder if we can get a map of the proposed areas. Seems like scatter shot from the reading of it. It it is only Hanford and the reach we'd be unaffected.

Umtanum Ridge is one ridge South of Manastash. It goes all the way East to the Hanford site. CBD may try to close off the areas that this stuff grows to access, but most of it, including the Yakima Firing Center and parts of Hanford, are already inaccessible and/or Federal land.

Let them fight with each other.

i dont know of any land that these plants grow on that is orv accesssible anyways? the reach area has been closed to orv traffic for quite some time iirc

Graham, the point is that USF&W caved to the "sue and settle" tactics of CBD and the other green fronts, and didn't do their damn job. Kearan Suckling and Noah Greenwald have an agenda, and it ain't anything good...
