Help Stolen!

Postby krazytoy » Mon Apr 18, 2011 5:10 pm

Well, I have been staying at the Horn Rapids RV park and someone stole my B&W Companion 5th wheel hitch out of the back of my truck. Its about a thousand bucks for a new one so if anyone see's or here's anything please let me know. It is a brand new hitch, not a scratch on it.

Wow that is some bullcrap. I'm a craigslist junkie so I'll keep an eye out for a 5th wheel hitch. Are the hitches serialize to prove ownershp if one turns up?

Yes they are. I have the paper work to prove ownership. It was brand new, I used it once and it does not have a scratch on it! I use the teflon plate in between the 5th wheel and the hitch so it looks brand new. It is also adjustable and I know the position I had it in. You don't see these hitches for sale very often so it should be a give away if someone tries to sell it. They also took my tailgate! White new body style Chevy LT non-locking. I appreciate it fellas.

Wow that's crappy!! I may start locking my tailgate. I try not to leave my hitch in my truck cause it's in the way of hauling other stuff.
You can follow me.... but it's gonna hurt ;)

From what my friend that sells trailers & hitches tells me the thief did you a favor. He's not a fan of anything from B&W apparently.

Can I come to your house and steal something of yours that you paid 850 of your hard earned dollars for and see if you think I did you a favor.
I was not looking for opinions just a heads up from local wheeler.

Not what I meant at all I was just saying what my buddy in the industry had to say about them. Thieves suck, I've had lots of stuff stolen from me over the years, the last thing was a brand new set of 38" sx's on beadlocks worth about double of your hitch. Yes it sucked. I'm still keeping my eye's pealed for ya. 8)

No apologies needed. I have lots of connections at my disposal, I'll see if I can't track your hitch down even if my buddy does think it was junk.

Well that is the real crappy part. I got a job back home in Idaho Falls, and I leave next Thursday. Trying to pull a 40' weekend warrior toy hauled with a bumper pull isn't going to happen.

Again, I've been wheelin since I could walk and I am always amazed at the loyalty and brotherhood we have towards each other, most of the time towards people we have never met. That's why I figured I would post here. Thank you all very much.

What do you have left from the old hitch? Looking at the design you probably still have the mounts in the floor of the bed? I have a spare hitch that needs a base so it wouldn't be a biggy to build a custom base so you can get your trailer home for as little cash as possible.

The only thing left is the goose neck hitch that you need to use the 5th wheel hitch. That's why unless you have the goose neck hitch, this hitch is worthless! With the b&w 5 th wheel hitch, it doesn't bolt to the floor at all. It all mounts off of the square post that goes into the goose neck receiver. It's hard to explain, but when its out there is nothing but the flush mounted goose neck receiver. They took the whole hitch, but didn't waste time unbolting the goose neck part. It takes me about 10 minutes to unbolt the 5th wheel hitch with air tools. The nuts are all nylock and you know how long those take with a hand wrench. I believe someone had been watching it and knew that I and just about everyone else in that park leaves on the weekends. I already ordered a new one, it should be here tomorrow, but I would love to catch who ever took it!

Dang sounds like someone did watch things. It was probably someone in the yard or a friend/relative of one.

Isn't there a way to secure it so it can't be removed? On my big reese hitch it is easy to lock it down and once I actually get around to mounting it I'll do it for sure.
