How easy is it to re build a Toyota front and rer 8" axle?

REALLY easy to do. If you want to do it right get a fish scale to set the preload on the trunion bearings. Whatever you do DO NOT get a knuckle rebuild kit from trail gear, their bearings are a chinese copy complete with part number to look like a koyo bearing but they fail.

where should i get a rebuilt kit from?

marlin is what i have.
look on pirate they have a complete diagram.
if not just take it apart and place it in order and then reverse it to go back together

Anthony, You might want to put together a parts list and then go down to the local Toyota dealer to get prices. Overall, the price of the factory parts were not that much different that those supplied by the aftermarket guys. I have done what you're going to do -- twice. The dealer/factory parts were much better than the aftermarket stuff that I used the first time... especially the bearing.

finaly u show up. ^ so do i just go down to say abajin Toyota and ask them to print me out a list of things i need and remember im not going to run 33's like u im gonna do 36's or 35's.

Anthony, You may need to put together a parts list. The Toyota guys in Pasco are pretty clueless. For the most part, you need seals, gaskets, ,felts, and bearings. Take a hub diagram with you to the dealer. Try not to use silicon as it makes rebuilds and maintenance a pain. You can install a set of superberfields, if you have left over money burning a whole in your pocket. Really, unless your running lockers and have you steering stops turned in too far, you will likely never bust a berfield. I believe that most berfields are broken by heavy foots when the wheels are cranked to the left or right and bound up.

Trunion and wheel bearings buy them from Marlin crawler or the dealer. Either way they are the same koyo bearings. DO NOT under any circumstance buy them from trail gear. I have a buddies front axle here that I am helping him rebuild and install an E locker into and he made that mistake of getting them from there. CHEAP flimsy garbage bearings guaranteed to fail early.

If you want to seal the knuckles get a rubber and felt kit for a flat fender. The 25/27 closed knuckle rubber seal slips right onto a yota ball and the felt is MUCH thicker, all you have to do is trim the felt diameter to fit and you'll have a great seal. Get inner axle seals from Marlin as well, they are made to seal under tweaked housings, or misaligned knuckles.

If you want to upgrade the axles do the birfields first, the inners are surprisingly strong, I only busted one and I deserved to change it for what I did to it to make it break. I ran Longfield 27 spline CroMo birfs on stock inners with 42" tsl's for about a year and the same setup on 38" sx's for a year before that with no issues.

If you want to lock the diffs, aussies are a very nice affordable auto locker. All my friends that run them are extremely happy with them and they are a complete opposite for a lock rite. No banging, clanging or clicking. They just flat work.
