After thinking I had success yesterday, I put the hood down, wrong thing to do it was off by about 1.5 inches. I didn't think my measurements were that bad and they weren't. I've decided something isn't straight, imagine that on a Jeep, and that is the way it's going to be.
Something to hold the grill
And tape because it was there.

Well new surprise today.
Bought the Jeep with a SB chevy (350?) and an unknown 4sp. Seeing that It's a SB I was assumed it was a 420 or 465, well it's a NP435.
After a little research the 435 did come in Chevy for about 4yrs (68-72).
Does anyone know how to tell the difference between a Ford and Chevy NP435? If it was running wouldn't be a problem because the first is different but it's not going to be running for a while.

Well after a not so good day at work, the tide turned when I pulled up into the driveway.
The big rolling santa had paid a visit and dropped a pair of these off:
After test fitting my butt in them, I then headed out to the shop. Got to talking with the neighbor (instead of work on the Jeep as I had planned) and ended up walking this around the block, didn't have a small enough hitch to tow it, home for FREE with a title.
After all the excitement, something funny happened to the Jeep:
I was down to only 6 bolts holding the body on and decided it was a good time to put a rust shield (por-15) on the bottom. This also gives me better access to remount the engine & trans along with cleaning the frame up too. Really wasn't planning on all this but might as well do it right then it won't be a problem later.

Well this isn't what I had planned when I started this project but one thing leads to another and pretty soon to do it right, guess you need to start with the base.
This also gave me a chance to strap the frame. So now the frame is cleaned up, degreased and ready for some POR 15. And I also remembered why I hate painting, maybe not painting but the prep work that goes with it.
While cleaning the frame I also cut the engine mounts off and am having so serious thoughts on changing the engine and trans. The engine ran good when I bought it but since then I've discovered the crank bolt is missing, may not be that big of a deal but why is it not there?
The trans is a NP435, 4sp. This is a good trans but not sure if it's a 6 or 4 to 1 first gear. I would hate to put this all back together just to find it's not the trans I want.

The top is painted, or at least a sealer is put on (POR 15). It's a 20ft looker but I'll let it dry tonight and flip it over for to finish the bottom tomorrow. Even had a little left in the can to paint the stands.
I still have more welding to do but figure I can get at everything now and just repaint later, POR 15 is self leveling and just brushes on.

Ummmmmm, not much farther, I'm trying to do body work and just can't get motivated. Cold just isn't good for working in either, shop needs a heater.
As of lately I've been trying to put my bother's Jeep back together, the CJ-2B. He is getting ready to sell his house and needed some help getting somethings cleaned up, the Jeep being one.
