exploded transfer case

Postby CopenhagenCowboy » Thu Jan 20, 2011 11:47 am

Not mine luckily. But one of my buddies from the navy tried to drive his 02 wrangler from georgia and somehow the front driveshaft removed itself from the tcase as we'll as removing the whole side of the housing. His chain is hangin out I've got some pics ill throw up when I get to a computer. What would cause this? If he wasn't in 4 his front ds should be free thus not. Blowing up the tcase. Its a manual trans so if anyone has 2 cents to throw out or an extra tcase let me know. He's leaving in a couple dayst to bangor.

Wranglers don't have locking hubs so the the front drive turns all the time.

Ayup. Even if it was a disconnect housing (done away before '02 I think) it still turns a bit. With a non disconnect housing it is in fact spinning at full speed so when the front driveline takes a crap it takes the t case with it.

Sounds like a 23 spline 231 and front driveline are in his future.

Your front d/s doesn't turn because your TJ sits in the driveway... :lip:
Yep, I've wheeled one of those, too...

Okay, we're a little crazy to have a Duramax for a daily driver. But if we go off our meds, we might wind up in a Prius.
