Rear frame tie in for TJ

Postby scumby » Mon Aug 18, 2014 6:28 am

Since adding some extra weight to my rear bumper I figured I'd add some support. ordered these off ebay.

I've got something similar on mine. The tire carrier is pretty heavy with the full size spare, and I've towed some pretty heavy stuff for short distances. No problems at all.

I thought the idea of the double bend by the weld at the frame and crossmember area was a good idea compared to the rest of the manufacturers. I've not gotten them yet but I'm not sure I like the idea of the through frame bolts without mention of a sleeve to prevent frame crush.

Weld them to the frame bolt them to the bumper, or sleeve them, issue solved...

Building a capable off roader is easy, building a street legal one that you can wheel and then drive daily is the challenge...

They shouldn't bolt thru the frame only to one side. The nuts should have a tab on them to reach inside and stop them from spinning while tightening.
